Historic Lake Vernon Wilderness Cabin Restoration

Historic Lake Vernon Wilderness Cabin Restoration

Restoring unique cabin preserves Yosemite history.

The Lake Vernon Snow Survey Cabin is a unique historical cabin set in the remote Yosemite wilderness. It has a long history of providing important shelter for crews on search & rescue missions, and is also an outpost for scientists collecting data on yearly snowfall that informs water management strategies across California. Park Rangers also use this cabin when patrolling this area – ensuring hikers and resources are safe.

Deemed eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, Lake Vernon Snow Survey Cabin, a historic example of a 1940’s log construction, will continue to deteriorate without much needed restoration and we could lose not only a vital resource but a piece of Yosemite history.

Yosemite Conservancy will fund essential repairs that preserve its historic character and prevent further deterioration.
