Yosemite’s 150 Year Celebration

Yosemite’s 150 Year Celebration

Visitors to join historic celebration.

In 2014, Yosemite will celebrate its’ Sesquicentennial anniversary – 150 years ago Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove were set aside by President Lincoln and granted to California as the first protected scenic area in the country.

This upcoming anniversary creates a tremendous opportunity to promote visitor understanding and enjoyment of this iconic park as we celebrate the birth of the national park idea. Additionally, the project will celebrate 150 years of resource protection in Yosemite and its’ impact on the rest of the world.

Yosemite Conservancy has been an important part of that history, with its roots in the Yosemite Museum Association, founded in 1923 to support the park. This year we will begin work on outreach and educational opportunities that will be part of a larger 150 year celebration in the park

These events and programs will give all visitors the opportunity to celebrate the park’s history.
