Campus Wilderness Center Connects Students to Yosemite

Nurturing park stewards and leaders today is important for the future of Yosemite National Park. With your help, Yosemite Conservancy is providing for an on-campus Wilderness Education Center at the University of California, Merced.

This Wilderness Center serves as a hub for connecting students and surrounding communities to Yosemite. Staffed by National Park Service rangers and student rangers, the center provides on-campus resources for trip planning and hosts educational events like film screenings. Student rangers also give presentations to local high schools, working with teachers to share information about Yosemite.

The Wilderness Education Center links together academic, professional and cultural communities within the park. Without this on-campus connection and the relationships it nurtures we may miss an ideal opportunity for inspiring our future park stewards.

Project Notes

College students have a cool factor that opens lines of communications with high-school students. We hope to instill in them an environmental ethic they will carry forward into whatever profession they choose.
