Partners in Wilderness Protection
Yosemite Conservancy staff fulfill an important role in augmenting National Park Service efforts to avoid overcrowding of areas, which are meant to provide opportunities for solitude. Annually, Conservancy staff issue over 7,000 advance permits and assist the National Park Service in issuing over 6,000 permits out of the Yosemite Valley Wilderness Center
Preserving the Wilderness Experience
The Conservancy also maintains important outposts in Yosemite wilderness, such as the historic Ostrander Ski Hut. Ostrander Lake Ski Hut, built in 1940, was the last building erected in Yosemite by the Civilian Conservation Corps and is still available for visitors to enjoy today. Yosemite Conservancy manages access to this culturally significant ski hut through a reservation system and provides for hut keepers to welcome visitors.
