John Dill

John Dill arrived in Yosemite in 1970 as a rock-climber after graduating from MIT with a degree in physics. He was one of the first members of Yosemite Search and Rescue when the program was formally established in 1974. During the past 30 years, he has participated in almost every significant rescue in Yosemite National Park. Dill has plucked climbers off granite walls from the end of a rope dangling below a helicopter, saved hikers in deep gorges and rescued people from drowning.
