Simple and Fast Plein Air Watercolor

Join experienced artist Karen Bieber to learn a simple approach to watercolor that is appropriate for painters of all levels.

Whether you’re brand-new to painting or are an experienced artist, you’ll enjoy this fun, welcoming watercolor workshop in Yosemite Valley. Beginning students will learn simple watercolor techniques; more advanced artists will focus on honing their craft and developing skills to take their paintings to a new level.

Throughout the workshop, your instructor, experienced artist Karen Bieber, will offer tips, demonstrations and personal guidance to help you interpret your surroundings and apply new skills to bring a scene to life on paper. After a day of outdoor painting, you’ll have a fresh perspective on Yosemite’s autumn beauty — and on the wonder of working with watercolor.

Beginner level: Little to no experience required, ages 12+.
Registration: $20 per day per visitor; advance registration recommended; drop-ins welcome as space is available.
Location: Happy Isles Art and Nature Center; shuttle stop #16; park at Curry Village and take the shuttle; workshops are held outside, weather and medium permitting.
Time: 10 am to 2 pm, Monday through Saturday. Please arrive at 9:45 am to purchase supplies. Please plan for extra time when taking the shuttles.
Materials: Supplies are not included in the registration fee. Supply lists are sent to registered participants once payment is received. Additional supplies are available for purchase at Happy Isles Art and Nature Center. All purchases benefit the park! Materials available for use free of charge: field easel, field stool, hardboard, water containers and paper towels.
Lodging arrangements are the responsibility of the participants.

Karen Bieber

Karen Bieber, a native of California, has been studying watercolor for most of her life. She has won awards for several of her paintings, is an active member of the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society, and is a Signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Watercolor West and the California Watercolor Association. She also teaches at a senior center in Morgan Hill, California.
