See Yosemite’s Wonders: Improve Access to Scenic Vistas - 2015

Maintaining scenic vistas in Yosemite connect visitors to the park’s landscapes.

Visitors from around the world come to Yosemite to experience the majestic landscapes. Many people take a scenic drive to see the park’s most famous icons from well-known viewpoints, such as Tunnel View and Glacier Point. These scenic vistas connect visitors to the beauty and majesty of the park, creating wonderful memories in the process.

Re-establishing these iconic vistas according to the park’s Scenic Vista Management Plan gives visitors better access to safe and environmentally sound locations from which to enjoy the grandeur of Yosemite. In 2015, your support helped fund work to re-establish historic scenic vistas in Yosemite Valley, where encroaching vegetation has obscured the once-marvelous views. Restoring vistas such as these provides better access to magnificent scenery, and removes the temptation for visitors to create informal pathways across meadows or other sensitive habitats in order to find a better view.

Your support allowed Yosemite to continue preserving and increasing the diversity of scenery in the park to create a more memorable visitor experience.

Completed in partnership with Yosemite National Park.

Maintaining scenic vistas in Yosemite connect visitors to the park’s landscapes.

This project continues scenic vista management at 10 sites in Yosemite Valley, allowing visitors access to this grandeur while minimizing environmental impacts. Efforts are coordinated with the ecological restoration of Merced River, and include restoring vegetation and eroded river banks at vista sites.
