Fall Oak Leaves

Autumn in Yosemite brings dramatic color. As temperatures cool, leaves on deciduous trees stop producing chlorophylls, the green pigment that makes food. The green fades away to reveal hidden pigments, such as the yellow carotenoids in these oak leaves. Watch the Half Dome webcam to see maple, dogwood, oak and cottonwood in the sun.
