Celebrated historian and actor Lee Stetson has presented this stirring production in Yosemite National Park – and around the world – since 1983. Now in its 35th year, “Conversation With a Tramp” depicts Muir’s dramatic battle to preserve Hetch Hetchy Valley in northwestern Yosemite. Audience members meet Muir in the early 1900s, as a political battle rages over plans to flood the valley and create a reservoir to provide water to San Francisco. While Muir awaits word on a decision to dam the Tuolumne River, he draws the audience into his world, expressing righteous anger at the “temple destroyers” while relating some of his most extraordinary adventures.

As Stetson breathes fresh life into an environmental icon, Muir’s good humor and profound love of wilderness shine even with uncertainty swirling around his beloved Hetch Hetchy.
